James Thompson Lodge’s Warrant was issued on the 27th February 1913 and the Lodge consecrated 17th April 1913. The uniqueness of the Lodge, other than because of its ebullient and boisterous members, is as one of the few Lodges in Cheshire working the Bottomley and McGee Ritual. This ritual is unique to only a few lodges in the Merseyside Area, and differs slightly from Lodge to Lodge. It traces its origins to the Grand Lodge of Wigan, and the Liverpool Masonic Rebellion, when changes from the standardised Emulation workings were used.
The Lodge first met at the Masonic Chambers in Hamilton Street, Birkenhead but later moved to the Masonic Temple, Clifton Road, Birkenhead in 1924 were it still meets to this day. The reasons for this move have been lost in the mists of time.
The Lodge has an active social side and a healthy outlook, with a good number of younger Masons having joined, and taking the Lodge forward. It holds two to three social events each year, supporting both local and Masonic charities, with an emphasis clearly founded on enjoyment.
The Lodge has a fine tradition of working hard and performing good ritual, but this is never at the expense of enjoyment.
We are also proud to support the Masonic and local charitable causes, regularly holding social events to raise funds accordingly.
We always extend a warm welcome to our visitors, many of whom visit on a regular basis.
We are proud to have supported the 2016 Festival, having been awarded Presidential Grand Patronage. The Lodge has also donated significant monies to the TLC appeal.
The Lodge meets at The Masonic Temple, 27 Clifton Road, Birkenhead, Wirral, CH41 2SF on the fourth Thursday of September to November, and January through to April (installation).
