Formed in 1913, The James Thompson Lodge is the last Lodge in Birkenhead, and possibly the Wirral that Practices the Bottomley and McGhee Ritual , which has its roots in the Liverpool Masonic Rebellion of the late 1700’s and holds dear that distinction amongst the similar but more commonly used Emulation ritual, which sets the Lodge slightly apart from other Lodges.
We also prize ourselves of being a little different to most Lodges, with an active Social outlook, with regularly organised Lodge and indeed occasionally Charitable Events, including in recent years a three day bike ride around the tow paths of Cheshire, raising over £10,000 for Charity.
Our Membership is drawn from a diverse background of Characters and professions, which includes Builders and Plant fitters, Firemen and tree surgeons, shop keepers to ex forces members, and we meet on the 4th Thursday in September to November, and January to April.
We do seek a small number of new members each year, who are interested in joining a Traditional Social and forward-thinking Lodge.
There is of course a process we follow, where the applicant gets to find out more about Freemasonry, the Lodge and its Members, before we start the full initiation process, and this is to ensure that not only are you right for the Lodge, but equally that our Lodge is right for you.
One thing is for sure, when you join the James Thompson lodge you will be supported throughout your Masonic Journey
